The island’s beaches are one of the main reasons it is ranked “#2 Island in the World” by readers of Travel and Leisure magazine. Hilton Head offers more than 12 miles of pristine, sandy beaches. While most of it is along the Atlantic Ocean coast, some is along the Calibogue Sound, some on the Port Royal Sound at Port Royal plantation and Hilton Head plantation. Driessen Beach, Burke’s Beach and Folly Field Beach are just a few public beaches to explore.
One of the best beaches is Coligny Beach which is only a few blocks from the S.R Hotel. There is free parking across the street. You can swim, ride bikes or enjoy sitting beachfront for a drink at the Tiki Hut.

Daufuskie Island
Enjoy a short ferry across to this historic and enchanting pristine island. You will not find a car on the island so a tour is the perfect way to experience it. You’ll learn about the island’s original inhabitants (Native Americans) – over ten thousand years ago.
The name Daufuskie means “point of a feather” or “point of an arrow” as the island is shaped like an arrowhead. Since the 1500’s, The Spanish, The English and The Gullah (Descendants of Freed Slaves) have all been part of the history and culture of Daufuskie.
Cruises
Breathe the wonderful ocean air and take in the Low country beauty from the water. The Sunset Dinner Cruise and Dolphin Cruise will give you the ultimate island experience. Step on board luxury passenger yacht, The Spirit of Harbourtown, and enjoy panoramic ocean views, cocktails and Low country fare created by award-winning chefs. Dine indoor or alfresco – either way you will experience the best views and sunsets on the island.
The allure of Dolphins is universal. Who can resist these cute and intelligent creatures? Try not to smile when you see them. Travel out of Calibogue Sound to the Atlantic Ocean and you are guaranteed to see Atlantic bottlenose dolphin pods swimming and feeding. This tour will take you through gorgeous waters where you’ll also spot many types of ocean birds.
Watersports
Fun-seekers will love Hilton Head Island! The Intracoastal Waterway and the many beaches provide the ultimate playground. If you have some energy to expend – try kayaking, SUP, surfing or kite-surfing. There are also many adventure outfits that offer tubing, waterskiing, wakeboarding and parasailing.
Being “on the water” is to truly experience the island. This is your chance to try something that you’ve never done before!
